India and the Czech Republic share diplomatic ties that trace to 1947, when India recognised Czechoslovakia. The relationship has continued uninterrupted through the 1993 Velvet Divorce. Built on a foundation of Cold War-era industrial cooperation — the Skoda brand became a household name in India — the modern bilateral has diversified into defence, IT services, engineering, and an emerging India-EU trade dimension. The Czech Republic is a significant EU member and NATO ally, and bilateral engagement has been growing in the 2020s as India deepens its European relationships.
