India and Finland elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in Digitalization and Sustainability during Finnish President Alexander Stubb's visit to India in March 2026, building on decades of cooperation in technology, clean energy, and education. Finland's Nokia has been a cornerstone of India's telecom infrastructure since the 1990s, and Finnish companies including KONE, Wärtsilä, and Metso Outotec have deep manufacturing roots in India. The DESI framework (Digitalization, Education, Sustainability, Innovation), launched in 2023, provides the current architecture for deepening cooperation.

The relationship is in a strong upswing, having been elevated to a Strategic Partnership in March 2026. Nokia's 5G and 6G research partnership with Indian telecom players and the DESI framework provide two clear institutional anchors. Education and skills cooperation is growing through teacher-training exchanges. Services trade — dominated by Indian IT exports — is robust. The CERT-to-CERT cybersecurity link and the JWG on Sustainability are active working-level tracks.
