SPECIAL PARTNERSHIPDTAA HUBINDIAN OCEAN STRATEGYINDIAN-ORIGIN MAJORITYDEFENCE COOPERATION
India and Mauritius share one of the closest bilateral relationships in the Indian Ocean region, underpinned by a shared history, a majority Indian-origin population (~68% of Mauritians trace ancestry to the subcontinent), a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement that long made Mauritius the leading route for FDI into India, and deepening maritime security cooperation. Mauritius is central to India's Indian Ocean strategy and serves as its principal gateway to sub-Saharan Africa.
