India & Palau
FIPIC MEMBERPACIFIC ISLAND PARTNERUNCLOS ALLYCLIMATE SOLIDARITY
India and Palau maintain friendly diplomatic relations through the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC). Palau — a Micronesian archipelago of 340 islands in the western Pacific — is one of the world's smallest nations by population but holds one of the largest maritime Exclusive Economic Zones relative to its land area. Palau is notable for its explicit pro-Taiwan and pro-US alignment (under a Compact of Free Association with the United States), its marine biodiversity conservation programmes, and its UNCLOS-consistent positions on maritime law — areas of alignment with India. Bilateral economic ties are negligible.

Where things stand, 2026
India-Palau relations are cordial but minimal in bilateral depth. The relationship is sustained through FIPIC multilateral engagement and ITEC capacity building. Shared UNCLOS alignment and climate solidarity provide substantive common ground at multilateral forums. Palau's primary strategic relationships are with the US and Japan; India is a secondary partner. No bilateral trade agreement exists or is under consideration.
