TWO-STATE SOLUTIONPLO RECOGNITION 1988HUMANITARIAN AIDNAM SOLIDARITYITEC BENEFICIARY

India has been one of the world's most consistent supporters of Palestinian self-determination, recognising the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) in 1974 — making it one of the first non-Arab countries to do so — and recognising the State of Palestine in 1988, the year of its proclamation. India's support for a two-state solution, Palestinian statehood, and the Palestinian people's right to self-determination has been a cornerstone of its foreign policy, rooted in its Non-Aligned Movement heritage and solidarity with decolonisation struggles. India maintains this support while also managing its growing strategic partnership with Israel.

CURRENT STATE

Where things stand, 2026

India's support for Palestinian statehood and the two-state solution remains firm and is expressed consistently in international forums. The 2023-2025 Gaza conflict has intensified the political salience of India's Palestine position domestically and internationally. India has sent humanitarian aid, voted in UN General Assembly resolutions consistent with ceasefire and humanitarian access, and maintained its ITEC and development cooperation programmes with Palestinian institutions. The tension between India's Israel strategic partnership and its Palestine solidarity is managed through careful diplomatic language and differentiated bilateral tracks.
