INDIA-AFRICA FORUMITECDEVELOPMENT PARTNERPHOSPHATE TRADEGATEWAY TO WEST AFRICA
India and Senegal have maintained diplomatic relations since Senegal's independence in 1960, building ties grounded in South-South solidarity, ITEC training, and India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) cooperation. Dakar's position as West Africa's premier diplomatic hub makes the relationship strategically significant. Trade in phosphates, groundnut oil, and pharmaceutical products underpins a growing commercial relationship, and a resident Indian community with business interests has been present in Senegal for decades.

CURRENT STATE
Where things stand, 2026
The India-Senegal relationship is active and deepening across trade, development cooperation, and political diplomacy. Phosphate imports, pharmaceutical exports, and ITEC remain the backbone of the partnership. Senegal's transition to a new government (President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, elected March 2024) has not disrupted bilateral ties; the new administration has maintained the tradition of warm India-Senegal relations.
