India and Slovakia established diplomatic relations in 1993 following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. Slovakia inherited the broad outlines of India-Czechoslovakia ties — which were warm during the Cold War era — and has developed an independent bilateral relationship based on pharmaceutical exports from India, IT services, and growing trade. Slovakia's role as a Central European automotive manufacturing hub (Volkswagen, Kia, Stellantis) and its EU membership make it a point of interest for Indian industrial investment.

CURRENT STATE
Where things stand, 2026
India-Slovakia relations are stable and commercially driven. Pharmaceutical exports and IT services are the headline bilateral activities. Slovak automotive FDI creates indirect supply chain links with India. Slovakia's political shift under PM Fico has introduced some EU-level divergences but has not affected bilateral India-Slovakia ties. The relationship is managed professionally through resident embassies in both capitals.
